Radar emission spectra

Radars need to comply with certain emission spectrum regulations that are issued by the Federal Office of Communications. Radars are only allowed to transmit in specific frequency bands and the radar operator needs to ensure that energy is radiated only within a clearly defined frequency mask. Measuring the legal compliance of radar system is a demanding task, since spurious emissions need to be measured down to a level of 100~dB below the peak power. To fulfill this task, Palindrome RS has set up specific measurement equipment and applied it on a meteorological radar system. The image below shows the result of the measurements. It is seen that some peaks surpass the emission mask, indicating that the radar under test needs to be equipped with additional filters.
